Description

To motivate our youth to achieve their maximum potential and be catalysts for positive change in their communities, Comcast partners with City Year to recruit young people for a year of community service, leadership development and civic engagement. These City Year “corps members” serve full-time in high poverty schools nationwide, helping students by serving as tutors, mentors and role models to keep them in school and on track to high school graduation. Corps members from City Year, a national organization, inspire young people to lead and teach them life skills that create lasting value. The national community partnership reflects Comcast’s and City Year's shared commitment to public service, volunteerism, and the development of youth as leaders in their communities.
Since 2005, Comcast has been the presenting sponsor of City Year’s annual national conference, presenting Comcast Leadership Awards to five outstanding alumni who each receive a $1,000 grant. Comcast also supports City Year by sponsoring its annual Summer Academy in Washington, D.C., where more than 700 staff and senior corps members participate in a week of training and development.
Results
Since Comcast’s initial involvement with City Year in 2001, Comcast has pledged more than $75 million in financial and in-kind support, positively impacting thousands of youth nationwide. Currently, Comcast sponsors City Year teams of corps members in eight cities: Chicago, Ill.; Boston, Mass.; Detroit, Mich.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Miami, Fla.; Washington D.C.; and Denver, Colo. Corps members in those and additional cities also each year attend a one-day company program designed to strengthen their skill sets through resume reviews, interview workshops and motivating presentations from Comcast executives.
